How To Turn Your Passion Into A Business In Just 3 Questions
Doing what you love everyday sounds pretty perfect. It’s hard not to get excited about quitting your 9-5 for good when you imagine making your own hours, creating your own job, and forging your path, am I right?
You’ve thought about making your business idea a reality. But have you done the business soul-searching you need to truly turn your passion into a business?
Here are 3 questions that will help you find out.
1. Why am I turning my passion into a business?
It’s important to find out why you’re turning your passion into a business. Is it because you want to make money, fill a gap in the market, or quit your full-time job to do something different? There’s no wrong answer. What matters is getting clear on the why and holding it in your heart as you take this next step.
Whether you’re looking to operate a nonprofit that solves a problem no one else is working on, offer a new service that’s different from what’s out there, or quit your job to make money doing something satisfying and fulfilling (or all 3!), you’ll know what you’re doing this for. Getting super clear on your why means you’ll have something to fall back on through the ups and downs of owning your own business.
When you’re starting a business, it’s so important to take this step with intention. If you believe in your offer and sincerely want to offer it, you’ll connect with people who understand that vision. This is the foundation of your brand!
2. Is this something I just want to do right now?
There have been times when I’ve had business ideas that seemed like a good idea at the time. Nine times out of ten, I thought about turning that passion into a business for a few months, only to realize that it’s ultimately something I don’t want to put time and energy behind.
Running a business is no easy job. It takes a lot of time, energy, and effort. That’s why your business needs to be something you fully believe in if you’re going to make this work. If you’re not completely committed, you’ll make a sharp turn towards a business idea you’re not passionate about. No one wants that!
Truly take the time to sit with your idea and consider it before you take action. Ask yourself, is this something I want to do in the short term, or do I really want this to be my livelihood? Be sure you’re ready & willing to jump in and see what happens.
You’ll know if your passion is truly the right business idea when the idea just keeps coming back up. I always recommend letting it percolate for a while just in case your interest is a passing trend.
No matter what, make sure you have a great idea that you’re super passionate about with the drive to take action now.
3. What is your brand going to look like?
When you’ve discovered your why and are determined to grow your passion into a business, it’s time to build the foundational elements of your brand. Because at some point, you have to take tangible next steps to turn your idea into a full-fledged business.
At this stage, you’ll start to consider who you want to work with, what you bring to the table, and how you want to package what you offer. (You don’t want to miss these 3 things you need to know when starting a new business! Get all the details here.)
