When I was 25, I started my first business, a graphic design consultancy. At the time, I was working in a career I wasn’t enjoying. I hopped from job to job, hoping the next opportunity would be the one that stuck. No matter where I worked, I always craved more freedom. I wanted to create my own schedule and work independently, exploring my passions and working on projects for passionate people who aligned with my values.
After four years of full-time employment, I struck out on my own into the design and branding world as a business owner. At the time, I was on the precipice of a big life change. Moving to a new city was the push I needed to hand in my notice as a marketing manager and start my business.
The mistake I made? Not building a brand based on my unique value. In this series we’ve talked about how the first step should always be identifying what you’re great at. I excel as a detail-oriented communicator who can step into my audience’s shoes. I can understand where they’re coming from and get them from point A to B.
But I didn’t build my business from my unique gifts. I rested on the laurels of my technical skills, starting with my graphic design business. I went full-time freelance, working with clients across the board who wanted so many different things from me.
I felt like I couldn’t turn anyone down. All I could see was my own scarcity mindset, which made me take on any project that came my way.
I was always worried about where my next client would come from, letting myself get caught up in a race to the bottom, not charging or valuing my own skills based on what they're worth. I let the clients set the tone instead of focusing on what I do best by setting boundaries around the work I wanted to do. I didn’t listen to advice that encouraged me to niche my services, focus on my values, or price what I’m worth.
Before long, I was so far away from my vision of creativity and freedom, working with organizations that weren’t in my target market, completing projects for clients that didn’t align with my values and passions for people who didn’t value the work. My vision was always to be my own boss, work with people that aligned with my values, and find fulfilment & enjoyment in my business. That just wasn’t happening.
Last year, I took a step back from my business. I thought about what was missing, and how to represent this new phase.
That soul-searching led to a total shift in my business.
I closed down my original brand and started Anna Beyerle Creative, a branding and educational studio for changemakers building businesses they’re passionate about. I help people understand the amazing work they do can change the world, then work with them to communicate it in a way that feels most authentic.
Today, I teach people to build your brand values-up then discover their audience and offerings so no matter how they grow, change, and pivot, they’ll always have a foundation built upon what fires them up most. Now, it’s your turn.
With my signature process, I’m helping you start your business values-up from the beginning. In Envision Your Brand, we’ll discover your passion and create an action plan to make your passion into a real-life business that’s sustainable, satisfying, and prosperous.
In the program, you can look forward to learning how to discover your values, find out what you bring to the table, connect with clients you can’t wait to work with, and package up services that speak to your audience. We’ll set you up for success by working through your website, visuals, and marketing strategy so you’re never stuck on how to represent your brand. But most of all, I’ll show you how to grow and evolve with your brand so it never holds you back from your passions.
